22. Charles and Marie Blampied of Jersey

Blampied means 'white foot', suggesting someone too particular to get his feet dirty. The name is first recorded in the Extentes de L’Ile de Jersey (the 'Domesday Book' of the Channel Island) in 1528, where it is written as Blampy and Blampey.

Jersey is blessed with very old records, which many researchers have perused. Some caution is still needed on the oldest records. For the record, my oldest direct ancestors we know about in this part of the family are: Richard Blampied (1670), Marie Mourant (1680), Pierre Gruchy (1505), Marie Coutanche (1534), John Cabot (1430), Collette Nicolle (1430), Mabel Norman (1494), Thomasse Le Moigne (1528), John Hamon (1500), Michel Payn (1447; possible ancestors to C13), Jeanette De Carteret (1451), William Mallet (1410), Alice Young (1450, Bristol), Catherine Dumaresq (1475), Drouet Lempriere (1475; potentially earlier ancestors), Mabelle De Carteret (1478; potentially older ancestors), Alice De La Rosque (1517), Clement Michel (1608), Elizabeth Lempriere (1612),
Francois Robert (1581, Belgium), Jeanne Le Mathieu (1600, Belgium), Marguerite Francois (1656. Belgium), Jean Isaac Michon (1682; potentially earlier ancestors), Edouard Billot (1656), Jean Beaugie (1612), Elizabeth Baal (1618), Marie Nicolle (1700), Edouard? Picot (1718), and Françoise? Renault? (1737).

Charles Blampied (1757) married Marie Picot in Trinity, Jersey in 1783. They had nine children. The christenings were all in Trinity Jersey to the correct parents - the age spread does introduce the possibility that there were two couples with the same names, at (almost) the same time, in the same place.

  • 43.2.3 - Elizabeth Blampied (1787)
  • 43.2.4 - Charles Blampied (1790)

  • 43.2.6 - Denis Blampied (1798)

More on these individuals in Chapter 43.
