51.1 Siblings of Henry Larard

James and Harriett Larard had seven children in South London:
  • 51.1.1 - Helen Larard (1838-1919)

    • Married Henry Wallis (1840-1869) in St Barnabus, Kennington in 1865
    • Children:
      • Alice Helen Wallis (1865)
      • Laura B Wallis (1866)
      • Percy Henry Wallis (1866)
      • Ernest John Wallis (1868)
      • Harry Wallis (1869)
    • The children were born in Ryde, Isle of Wight. My photos of Ryde are here.
    • 1871: Widowed, with her mother in Brixton
    • 1881/1891: 10 London Road and then 13 Gauden Road, (now Larkhall), Clapham, with her children, boarders and a servant
    • 1901: 32 Dalebury Rd, Wandsworth. Her daughter and son-in-law Chaster were living with her; 1911: 36 Drakefield Road, Balham
  • 51.1.2 - Francis Larard (1840-1927)
Reginald and Francis Larard          
    • At home in Kennington in 1861. Watchmaker.
    • No further record found in the UK
    • Apparently, like his father, he emigrated
    • Died in Hill End, New South Wales, Australia
    • Hill End was a mining town. In 1860, there was no one there; in the early 1870s, it had a population of 8000. In 1945, 700 - the gold had run out.

  • 51.1.4 - Reginald Larard (1843-1900)
Reginald Larard
    • 1861: At home in Kennington, aged 18. Cabinet maker.
    • 1874: Emigrated on the Anglo Saxon, with his brother Sydney. Who looked the same, so that might have been confusing.
    • 1879: A Reginald Larard (chemist) was selling 'Oogar Dang Water', Helidon, Queensland; co-founded the Helidon Spa Water Co, later Kirk's.
    • 1900: Gold prospector in Cue, Western Australia. At this time, Cue was the centre of the Murchison goldfields and the terminus of the Northern Railway from Perth. It had a population of about 10,000. Its prosperity was ended by WWI, and the Great Depression, and its population dwindled.

  • 51.1.5 - Laura Larard (1844-1865)
    • At home in Kennington in 1861
    • Married William Hamilton Taylor (1842-1911) at St Barnabus in 1864
    • Children:
      • Laura Henrietta Ambroisine Taylor (1865)
    • Died in Wandsworth in 1865, two days after her 21st birthday
    • 51.1.6 - Frederick Larard (1846-1902)
      • 1891: Managing Director, Watch manufacturer. Living in Putney, in a road which looks like Pastefields, No 11. Shown as 'son', along with two Wallis boys; there is no head of the household.
      • Married Louisa Bertha Capon (1871-1942) in Chelsea in 1893
      • Died Blean, Kent
    • 51.1.7 - Sidney Larard (1848-1937)
    Sydney Larard
      • 1866: Indentured in Merchant Navy. The vessel was the Webfoot, purchased in 1864 by David Jenkins' Shire Line. It traded mainly with India and the Far East. Apparently, he travelled to Ceylon and Java.
      • 1871: Living with brother Henry in Vauxhall, Lambeth
      • 1874: Emigrated with brother Reginald (see above)
      • Married Minnie Harriett Smith (1855-1947) in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia in 1878
      • Brisbane has been a free, as opposed to convict, settlement since 1842.
      • Children:
        • Laura Cassandra Larard (1880)
        • Beatrice Helen Larard (1881)
        • George Herbert Larard (1884)
        • Alfreda Marie Larard (1887)
        • Bessie Constance Larard (1890)
      • Sidney died in Brisbane. He had been a banker, a leading light of the Chamber of Commerce, and Secretary of the Brisbane Club, excelling at tennis and golf.
