- Penrhos College was a Methodist girls-only boarding school
founded in 1880 by the Reverend Frederick
Payne, a local benefactor and minister. It was prominently situated above the promenade towards Rhos-on-Sea. Its former motto was Semper ad lucem ("Always towards the light"). It is now part of Rydal Penrhos, which accepted its last boarders in 2018. The original site was closed in 1999, and replaced with a housing estate.

silk, cane sugar ‘jaggery’, tamarind, woven mats, tobacco, timber,
precious stones, native products, and oil cake and oil products
homewards.
